Our farming
We grow as nature intended outdoors in sun and rain:
- Our Wheatgrass is locally grown in Northamptonshire to the finest quality. We grow outdoors in the sun and rain during nature's own seasonal cycles over a two to three month period. This is in contrast to wheatgrass grown in trays indoors, which is hyper accelerated by hot temperatures and harvested after just 14 days. It is for this reason that outdoor grown Wheatgrass juice contains NO simple sugars and carbohydrates.
- Our naturally grown Wheatgrass also prevents the growth of detectable moulds, which is a serious problem in indoor, tray and greenhouse grown wheatgrass. These moulds not only significantly affect the taste of the juice, but may also cause allergic reactions in people often resulting in unpleasant dizziness and nausea.
- We use organic traditional deep root farming methods, ensuring always that we protect nature and the local environment. We also use crop rotation techniques and fallowing, which in turn feeds the land so the land can feed our crop.
- The direct exposure to natural sunlight results in our Wheatgrass producing the maximum amount of valuable chlorophyll (as much as 50% more than indoor grown grass). It is this high chlorophyll content that nutritionists say is at the heart of the nutritional benefits of Wheatgrass juice.
- Our crops are free of herbicides and pesticides.
- We contribute to nature conservation through our work with the nature conservation charity - Natura International.
Our harvesting
- Dr Charles Schnabel was one of the first to research the most favourable time to harvest wheatgrass, identifying that nutritionally there is an optimum height of 10 cm - 17 cm (7" - 11") at which the wheatgrass is most nutritionally valuable. It is at this height - just before the jointing stage - that we harvest and the plant contains its most powerful energy in preparation for its next significant growth spurt.
- We carefully harvest with scythes so make certain that the delicate grass is not bruised.
Our freezing methods
- It is widely acknowledged that with any fresh produce the sooner it is consumed after being harvested, the more nutritionally rich it is.
- We therefore freeze the wheatgrass juice almost immediately using specialised blast freezers thereby preserving all the precious vitamins, minerals, and beneficial enzymes.
- We then store the frozen juice at -35 °C in order to guarantee that when it is delivered to your door, it has retained all its wonderful nutritional qualities. It can stay in your freezer for 8 months without losing the nutritional quality.
- We serve our Live Wheatgrass juice in very convenient, easy to use 1 ounce (28 ml) recyclable cups. You can then easily decide how many cups you need and also take one with you to work.
